Why we do this
We, healthcare workers from around the world and united over social media, have watched in disbelief at the events unfolding in Ukraine. We were struck and humbled by the scenes of staff using manual devices to hand ventilate sick newborns in underground shelters. As fellow neonatal care professionals, we want to express our deepest regards and offer support to our Ukrainian colleagues.
The impact from this invasion on Ukrainian health care is large overall. Healthcare facilities should never be objects of aggression. Children should never face war. It is hard to even imagine the challenges they may face under such extraordinary conditions, to provide basic care and medications. Their humanity leads by example.
We have witnessed the bravery, resilience, and dedication to keep bringing care of the most vulnerable in society. We stand together during these dark times and offer what we can, as a global community of friends and healthcare workers. This is a test for international solidarity and cooperation.
Ukrainian healthcare professionals: tell us how to support you best. Stay connected with us in practical and professional matters, both through social media and professional societies. Contact us directly if there is a need for assistance, and we will do our best to help.
Friends around the world: although we might feel powerless, we can use our networks, skills and resources to help our Ukrainian colleagues.
