Hi - our NICU team has been trying to be more consistent with how we transition babies from tube to oral feeds, parents have shared their frustration with differences amongst team members. We have developed a protocol and supporting resources. Here is the link to our project resources: http://sofi.nicu.ca/, ..regards

It is a good plan, but we have certain reservations using bottles because it may interfere with breast feeding promotion and bottles the family may think formula feeds are OK.

yes, i endorse your concerns regarding bottle feeding(many time these babies end up breastmilk stopped prematurely)

my concern with feeding plan are two

1. bottle feeds, i feel bottle has no role in infant feeding, instead spoon, cup , breast feeding directly or paladay feeding are used by us for weaning from tube feeds.

if baby is sucking well at brest and has no problem, shold we add formula milk or not when weight gain is not adequate and bay is well

Use cup and spoon to feed the child with EBM until the baby can suck from the breast freely. EBF is still encourage unless the mother have challenges
