Dear colleagues,

I would like to know if anybody has experience in using calculation of oygen content in the blood to determine the need for PRBC transfusion.

Regards

No we do not use this method.

We have no fixed guidelines for erythrocyte transfusions but usually consider to transfuse to infants on mechanical ventilation with suppl oxygen if the EVF is less than 40%.

In well preterm infants we rarely transfuse, but if EVF drops below 25% and if the reticulocyte count is not very high, we consider transfusion.
