Posted July 19, 20213 yr Dear All Do you routinely do car seat challenge for babies being discharged? And if yes, could you please share the evidence. Thank you
July 19, 20213 yr Thanks @dramitkan for posting! We don't do such challenges. And, added a poll here and also on Twitter where we promoted your topic:
July 19, 20213 yr We do- not for all babies, but we also include late preterms on transitional care- I will tag our neonatal home team/community team to the post on Twitter (Hayley) and hopefully she can help you!
July 20, 20213 yr I wonder what the share of babies going home in cars is in different countries.. Might this have an effect? I will add this survey from the US where >96% of NICUs perform a predischarge car seat tolerance screen (CSTS). https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32044465/ Does it help at all? In any case it seems to prolong the stay if an infant fails the screening test. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29269198/
June 9, 20231 yr I work at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) and they have a very detailed Car Seat Tolerance Challenge (CSTC) policy. It goes so far as to proscribe testing in a car bed if the infant fails the CSTC twice. Testing in the car bed uses the same criteria as the car seat. Does anyone follow this practice? Also, I cannot find an AAP Policy Statement about this issue. Does anyone know of one?
