AMIRA Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 dear all, I want no know about the best antibiotic to be given to babies as prophylactic when babies are admitted to the nicu
Alexander Rakow Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Hello! I guess there's no such thing as the "best" antibiotic yet, bacterial spectra varies between regions. We use bensyl-penicillin and gentamycin if we choose to give antibiotics at admission.
Guest adaniel Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Varies with each units bacteriological flora. we usually start with Penicillin and gentamycin. Alex Daniel Al AIn
Guest shawky2005 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 In our NICU we use Ampicillin and Gentamicin as the basic prophylactic antibiotics If we suspect any infection we do different cultures and decide acccording to the results of the cultures
junaidmuhib Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 As everybody saying there is no such thing as a best antibiotic, it depnds on the bacterial pattern in your unit. But most of the places using Ampicillin and Gentamicin as this combination covers almost all the usual bacteria. We r using the same combination. There was an artical in Neonatology today in 2007. In addition to that antifungal prophylaxis is also recommended.
Namah_elhouni@yahoo.com Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 in our unit we start with ampicillin+ gentamycin,if we suspect any infection .we do septicwork up and shift to third generation cephalosporin.
