About this blog

In this article by Chris Dall of CIDRAP [August 18, 2025]; about a study published in Nature Communications looking at the impact of probiotics on VLBW infants found that ''those who received probiotic supplements had fewer antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens in their gut than those who didn't, even when they also received antibiotics. The infants who received probiotics also had a higher abundance of beneficial bacteria''.

Study suggests probiotics may suppress antibiotic resistance genes in preterm infants | CIDRAP

I have yet to read the original paper, but thought it might be of interest.
