Guest Dr.Edu Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) Hey, I thought some of you might find this interesting... Especially those in thew New York area: Annual Collaborative Neonatal Conference Friday Oct 16, 2009 Sponsored by the NYU Post-Graduate Medical School Official Website: www.neonatalcme.com Target Audiences This intensive review of recent advances in the care of the high-risk infant is intended for pediatricians, neonatologists, cardiologists, pediatric intensivists, neonatal nurses, and neonatal nurse practitioners. In addition, infant develop- mental specialists, physiatrists, occupational and physical therapists as well as pediatric psychologists who provide care for infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will benefit from this course. Course Purpose Respiratory failure is the most common problem diagnosed for the premature infant. Ventilatory strategies utilizing newer ventilators are needed in the care of the premature infant and high-risk full term infant. Research also shows that respiratory failure in the full term is often associated with the diagnosis of persistent pulmonary hypertension, which responds poorly to medications and use of extra corporeal membrane oxygenation. Further, practitioners need to be updated on new concepts regarding breast milk and its effect on the immune system, use of Kangaroo Care to improve feeding tolerance and treatments for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy in infants. Course Description This intensive one-day course is designed to provide physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and infant specialists with a forum to learn about new strategies/ techniques that are likely to improve the outcome of neo-natal intensive care. A nationally prominent faculty in the field of neonatology has been assembled to present topics highlighting the management and outcomes of highrisk infants. The topics will be delivered in didactic lecture format and attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions following each presentation. Educational Objectives Evaluate the population in need, as well as efficacy and risk of application of therapeutic hyperthermia when treating hypoxic ischemic encephal-opathy in infants. Incorporate new ventilatory strategies to improve respiratory outcome in the premature/high risk full term infant. Adopt new strategies to care of infants with PPHN to decrease the need for medications and use of ECMO Formulate strategies and outcomes using Kangaroo care to improve nutritional tolerance of feedings in the premature infant. Identify new evidenced based research concepts in the importance of breast milk and effect on the developing immune system of the infant and share this information with patients.
