I accepted a NICU RN Job Offer as New Graduate!

Featured Replies

I recently joined this website to share in my excitement about receiving an offer as a NICU RN in a level 3 NICU when I graduate in May! And also to seek out resources for becoming a NICU RN, especially as a new graduate nurse.  I do have lots of experience as a CNA in the hospital setting and the last year primarily in an ICU setting.  Does anyone have any suggestions for good blogs, books, or websites that have information for being successful in starting out in nicu nursing?  I'm so excited to start my career doing exactly what my passion has been for!  Thanks for all the advice!

Welcome (in advance) to the wonderful world of neonatology :) !

In addition to 99nicu - there are of course plenty of web resources -

how starting off with http://www.neoknowledge.org/, http://neonatalresearch.org/, https://ebneo.org and http://newborns.stanford.edu/PhotoGallery/ ?

And, http://neonataldoc.blogspot.se/ - a anonymeous and a bit sad blog by a neonatologist, but very well written about difficulties that happen all of us.

Congratulations and welcome to the family! You couldn't have chosen a better field than neonatal nursing. I encourage you to be actively involved in your local neonatal nursing association and / or to join the Council of International Nenatal Nurses( COINN) This is a wonderful way to gain and share knowledge and experience and to feel part of a larger family of passionate individuals. For a basic introduction to neonatal care the Perinatal Education Programme Newborn Manual is a useful resource: http://bettercare.co.za/books/newborn-care/

Hello and congrats. Neonatal nursing is the best job you'll ever have and I'm a pediatric physical therapist telling you this. I would become a member of NANN, the nursing organization for neonatal nurses. Has a TON of good info. Sign up for two great journals: neonatal network and Advances in Neonatal Care. Both are dynamite. You might also want to start studying for your RNC, which is the certification for neonatal nursing. Good luck!! Hope that helped.

Hi knicole, What an accomplishment for a new grad - good for you!

We are all aiming you at professional organizations & I have another one for you. The Academy of Neonatal Nurses' mission is education, & when you join you will have access to a large online archive of offerings. The next web presentation is in April on Abstinence babies & provides CEUs. Their journal is Neonatal Network & offers CEUs also.

I would also suggest looking for a S.T.A.B.L.E course in the near future, it will give you a grounding in the steps of stabilization after resuscitation (stable.org).

You were asking about blogs & I did find one - all things neonatal @winniepegneonatal.wordpress.com

Best, Gayle

I recommend the Bliss website too - the forum is great for an insight into families/parents and hopefully show you the massive importance of family centered care. Congrats and enjoy the learning curve you are about to start - it gets easier!
