Emilio Escobar Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Hi, everyone. I want wondering then you use 3% sodium cloride solution to correct symptomatic hyponatremia, do you use undiluted or add more some solution or strike water? Thanks in advance 1
Stefan Johansson Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 I’d say it depends on the underlying pathogenesis. If the reason is iatrogenic or true Na loss. Generally we aim to correct S-Na during 12-36 hours. We calculate the sodium deficit and administrer that amount during this time. We do never use undiluted sodium solution, always add to a larger volume (typically 8 or sometimes 16 mmol/L) 1

Thanks in advance We do add 0.5 -1 ml 3% NS in feeds especially to ELBW babies who are hyponatremic on full enteral feeds and continue till 37 weeks. 1
