Posted July 19, 200915 yr We have been looking at factors which need to be taken into consideration when resuscitating extreme preterms. One which is mentioned regularly is extensive or excessive bruising. Despite a literature search we have been unable to find any supporting evidence to support this although we have all experienced these babies having a poor outcome in practice. Does anyone know of any such research or any papers that discuss how to 'grade' the bruising etc? Thanks in advance
July 23, 200915 yr I can only agree on your clinical impression. One major problem with major bruising is the abnormal coagulation often detected, and I think there a reports supporting abnormal coagulation status with poor outcome. If I was not on holiday, I would search Pubmed
