Posted September 10, 201212 yr We are doing our Laser Retinal Photocoagulation in our NICU in a pre-designed area. I just wanted to know where other NICUs are doing their Laser therapies? (NIICU or OR) DO you have a special area marked for Laser? If doing Laser in NICU how do yo manage to comply with Laser safety regullations? How do you ensure safety of other staff in NICU during the laser?
September 10, 201212 yr We take our babies to the OR. Though now we have had a few cases treated with Anti-VEGF we also brought to the OR, but maybe in the future we will do that on the ward. I believe it would be a lot easier for patients & staff.
October 16, 201212 yr We laser in a separated room on the ward (also used for postnatal care/resuscitation). We simply hang signs on all doors, drape all windows, all staff in the room wears laser goggles. We lase in conscious analgosedation with ketamine and dormicum, so no intubation is necessary.
October 16, 201212 yr We perform lasertherapy in the OR, though once we had it done on the ward (but we don't have wards anymore, just 1-, 2- and 3- patient rooms).
