Dear all,

we are considering to offer full text access to Archives of Disease in Childhood. We were offered by ADC to get access for a low cost per member, 25 euro, for online access to all contents at the ADC web site.

The regular individual fee will be 163 euros for 2007, our discount would be about 85%!

However, given the fact that we're rather soon approaching 1000 members, the cost for 99nicu would be 25,000 euros. In 2007, we expect to sell advertisment space for about 3,000 euros, which is basically needed for technical support, web hosting etc.

How should we proceed?

One approach would be to let individual users pay the rate of 25 euros somehow, either directly to ADC, or via 99nicu.

Or should we search for a sponsor?

Or should we just skip the idea of ADC as a member benefit?

Please express your opinion!

Hi Stefan,

Considering the quality of articles and repute of teh journal it would be great if we can members of 99 nicu forum can access the articles of ADC for free , but if finances are a a constraint i would not mind paying little bit extra for qulaity reading material.

I agree with the two. The best of course is the last.

It woulld be nice to try a sponsor and if this failled go to the first approach.

We have agreed with ADC to offer free full text access to the ADC web site during a trial period till the 31st of January 2007.

We are actively searching for external funding but it is likely that a symbolic fee will need to be charged after the trial period.

You find the link in the Members area (scroll down to the end of the main page).

Please note that even after registration you need to visit the ADC web site through the link in the Members area.

Hi and my best wishes to the 99NICU community. I think paying a fee is a good thing to do, even to become a new member. Depending on how many people are becoming members, the maintenance of the site would be guaranteed, and access to other revues be considered. The amount you think of does not seem high at least for EU and USA. I would consider free access for people from developing countries, in a further step

Greetings

Pierre

Dear Pierre,

thanks for good input!

We have no plans at the moment to ask for a fee for a regular membership - we wish to keep 99nicu open for anyone in neonatal medicine. Kind of difficult to put that ambition into words but it is related to some kind of neonatal democratic principle!

But "there's no such thing as a free lunch". And, since we have been surprisingly unlucky to get external funding so far, we are considering to offer a "Premium membership". A regular membership would then include almost all features of the community, but Premium members would get some extra benefits for a fee. Through our software and PayPal we could arrange that rather easily.

As the trial period of free access to ADC is closing by the end of January we are forced to present some kind of solution.

If anyone has good connections with companies with products/drugs relevant for neonatal medicine and would like to help us to find external funding - please send us a mail to info@99nicu.org
