March 20, 201115 yr I was reading this abstract here: http://www.fsneo.org/JourClub/12-009.htm and wondering how many of you hold feedings during transfusion? How long do you stop feedings? Have you seen any decrease in incidence of NEC after stopping feeds during transfusion?
March 22, 201115 yr Interesting article (and site/journal club!) We don't stop feeding, I was not aware of this association. However, it is based on observational data. Anyone else here stopping feeding during transfusions?!
March 23, 201115 yr Dear Stefan , can we add a poll to this? Absolutely! As admin you should see, under "Thread tools" above, "Add poll to this thread". If not, I will add one!
April 5, 201115 yr I am not sure if this is funny or not , but I used not to hold feeding during transfusion, then all of my collegues were holding the feeds and looking at me like I'm an alien from the outer space with 2 heads !! so I did hold the feeding for few years then it appeared that it doesnt really affect the NEC incidence so now I am doing the following: I feed the infant, then start RBC's transfusion over 2 hours. using one IV to adminster the RBC's ,check sugar in the middle, then resume feeding in an hour or 2 after finishing the transfusion. I'm not sure if you classify me under who's holding or not holding ! :)
