Neonatal textbook

Featured Replies

Hi

I am looking for an interesting neonatal textbook with covering all possible topics in detail

worth reading if considering neonatal fellowship

advise please

After looking at a lot of books - my favourite is Polin & Fox "Fetal and Neonatal Physiology" - there is a new edition out now. it has lots of details and goes into matters in depth. It is more the book to have if you want to understand the mechanisms of the diseases. Probably you wont find one book to cover everything though..

Also have a look at Robertsons and Avery's.

Avery's Diseases of Childhood has to be the one I would recommend...it is exhaustive , covers all topics....

Hi

Good to know that you are interested in persuing Neonatology

I personally would suggest Fanaroff . I found the layout and readability extremely good

I would first of all go through the protocols of the institute where you like to persue Fellowship , before embarking on textbooks . I have learnt this aspect the hard way .. Once the protocols are familiarized , reading textbook will be fun because we would know something about everything ..

I really agree with gopakumar in the aspect of protocols of the unit.Regarding the texts-Robertson takes lesser time to cover a topic rather than avery. But i personally prefer Avery as it is comprehensive and covers various studies too.Cloherty is a perfect manual.

Best of luck for your endeavour.

It depends on your use. Avery or Robertson to study for an exam but if you want a big consultation textbook (like nelson for pediatrics) without any doubt you can take Fanaroff, it is the best. All of them have a relatively updated editions.

For a quick general reference I like the following book mainly due to it has alot of topics and it has alot of quick info

Neonatolgy: Managment, procedures, on call problems, diseases and drugs 25th ed.

by Tricia Lacy MD, Gomella Douglas MD, Cuningham Fabien MD, Eyal and Deborah

It has been a great resource for my interns and residents as well as nurses on our unit.
