Hello,

i'd apreciate to know when do you use preterm formula at discharge in babies with no breast milk

  • Do you use it either in late preterms and term sga newborns?
  • When do you begin to use term formulas? At which weight?

Thanks for your help

Our dietician often suggests that we should use preterm formula "some time" after 40 weeks corrected age, in the more preterm born babies (typically <28 weeks)

In practical terms we usually switch over to regular formula at the first follow.up visit, i.e. usually at 3 months corrected age.

I start with PT formula20 cal/oz in PT baby <1500gm till reach 100ml/kg/day then switch to PT formula 24cal/oz/d till 40w corrected then maintain on transition formula 22cal/oz till 9m-12m

  • 4 months later...

We give term formula to > w 34+6  and SGA

Preterm formula (preNAN discharge)  < w 32+0 until 2 months corrected age

Preterm formula (preNAN discharge)  w32+0 - 34+6 until w. 40+0 or until discharge

  • 4 months later...
