November 5, 201510 yr Many of you may know the popular neonatal drug database called "Neofax".It used to be available as a small pocket book (which is still commonly used on our ward), quite a while ago it was also available as an iOS app. However, now I can only find it distributed by a company named micromedex and I don´t really know how to get access to it neither can I find any pricing.Does anybody of you have experience with this new app? How much does it cost? Thanks, Mahatma
November 6, 201510 yr Hi Mahatma, My facility has a subscription to Neofax on our portable computers. The last published books were in 2011, I believe. The program is easy to use - once you are in just start typing the name of the drug, it will jump to a selection on the list, when you choose it the info page comes up very similar to the book.it is also available as a paid for app for iPhones, I think it was $29/yr. from Truven Health Analytics.Support:http://www.micromedex.com/support/mobilerequest/I can try to get the cost info for you for the facility wide program.Regards, Gayle
November 6, 201510 yr An old idea/feature I would love to launch is an eHandbook here on 99nicu. Accessible as a "tab" in the menu above.A pharmacopedia would be a piece of cake to create with a crowd-sourced approach. There are plenty of Pubmed'ed info that we could refer to (i.e. of course we need to create our own text, not copy&pasting from copyrighted sources).
November 6, 201510 yr Author @Stefan, this would be a great idea!we should get people interested in this kind of "open-source" pharmacopeia for neonatologists.@Gayle: thanks so much for your information. I am more interested in this neofax app, so I think I should contact micromedex to get a subscription license for an iPhone app.(although I find this kind of distribution somehow annoying because they don´t state the amount of charging on their website).....
November 10, 201510 yr @mahatma the old idea has come to life and I think we really should give it a try. Once I feel the plugin is configured as needed I will start a new thread about the idea, and how we can get this going. For example, I think would need a small editorial board for a eHandbook. And I attach a screenshot as a cliff-hanger...
November 18, 201510 yr Fantastic idea. Really our old paper-based Neofax are now probably outdated and the new distribution is not easy to get outside a hospital-based subscription. I am available to help with your idea of constructing an open-access dosing book for 99nicu's members.
December 30, 201510 yr We use an excel-file with our medications we could use as a list to start with. Further thoughts: a pharmacologist?

January 4, 201610 yr Dear all I wish an excellent 2016 for all 99nicu members! Concerning the dosing book it could be a good idea to select a group of editors, each one with reponsability for one or two chapters (like in Neofax - antibiotics, respiratory, CNS...) and start working. I also beleive a pharmacologist editor would be advisable, as previously suggested. Could this be based online in the forum and in the future translated into a smartphone app? Best regards Andre
April 1, 201610 yr Hi Stefan dont have much experience with neofax; in UK we use bnfc. i am happy to make it work. Ravi
April 1, 201610 yr @raviagarwal could you please email me on stefan.johansson@99nicu.org - just to keep interested people in one place. I will get back within 1-2 weeks.
May 11, 20169 yr I use the neofax app too. We could put here one by one the medications and all the book data, I don`t believe this could be wrong, What do You think ?? Thank You.

Thank You. I don't know the Neofax terms & conditions but I would guess it is copyright-protected material. However, all drug dosages and indications are really available in "the public domain", i.e. Pubmed, so we should be able to create our own Pharmacopedia relatively easy.
May 12, 20169 yr I agree with Stefan. We should be very careful with copy-paste temptations from Neofax, since they developed from a drug-company offered book into a more complex profit-seeking solution. Would you agree on splitting the editorial responsibility between the editors for different areas? Regards

Yes, i bellieve you are right, I will look at it and send You a message, Okay. Thank You for the chance trying to help, I saw the way You guys are doing with the drugs I see that way too, It could be not so difficult for us to our pharmacopedia. Great work.
