Posted February 24Feb 24 Dear all Colleagues"I am currently undertaking a research project examining the microbiota of infants born to mothers with placenta accreta. I would appreciate any additional information or insights that colleagues may have on this topic."Warm RegardKartika Darma Handayani, MD (Neonatologist)Pediatric Department of Dr.Soetomo General HospitalAirlangga University (UNAIR) Jl. February 25Feb 25 👋 @Kartika Darma Handayani , thanks for sharing this question. I have read and learnt a lot about the intestinal microbiome but your take is new to me :)I looked into PubMed and did not find anything - can you elaborate how you came up with this research question and what exactly you would like to study (etiology of plac accrete?)
February 26Feb 26 Author I appreciate your feedback and responses. My study focuses on the gut microbiota profiles of infants born to mothers with placenta accreta spectrum and how they relate to pro-inflammatory cytokines, sIgA, and SCFA.
February 27Feb 27 Hi Kartika! You chose quite an interesting topic for your research!Have you considered factors like antibiotic exposure- infants of mothers with PAS are usually born via c-section, which are often secured with prophylactic antibiotics. May this also affect the microbiota of studied infants? I can also imagine that poor post c-section condition of the mother might be affecting her ability to have the baby skin-to-skin or breastfeed, which can further affect newborns microbiota - just some thoughts, correct me please if I'm wrong! From what I understand, collection of stool samples for sIgA can be quite challenging, as the levels vary throughout infancy and especially considering transition in diet and immune development. Do you already have some protocol or is there some established method published that you are planning to follow?
