drprasadrao Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Hello Neonatologists, Is routine nasogastric aspiration of the stomach done by you, if so why?
Stefan Johansson Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Do you mean at the time of delivery? If yes, our answer is No. If you mean before tube feeding: nurses/assisting nurses check the NG tube position (and gastric retentions) before feeds.
Guest drhassan.nimer@gmail.com Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 In NICU the nurse who feeds and takes care of the baby regulates and looks for the NG tube when necessary , also at the time of delivery the NG aspiration is done by the nurse. hkhawahur Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 how fequent you do NGT aspirate when you feed preterm babies
Guest Kathy Box Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 We check NGT/OGT aspirate prior to EACH feeding. 1-4 ml is returned to lower incidence of wasting electrolytes, "discolored" aspirate is discarded.
