Posted May 29, 200916 yr Best wishes.... Any new experience with the use of phenobarbitone in treatment of neonatal cholestasis? Thanks
June 5, 200916 yr We do not administer phenobarbital in cases of neonatal cholestasis. In PubMed I found these article in support of our strategy (but literature seems really sparse): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2324888 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3517284 On the other hand, we may give ursodeoxycholic acid to infant (especially preterms) with cholestasis as a result of long-term TPN. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18223390
July 7, 200915 yr we use phenobarb only in preparation for HIDA scan.we get a lot of cases where we have to differentiate between EHBA and severe cholestasis of other causes
