Drugs contraindicated through PICC line.

Featured Replies

Hi

I want to know any article or evidence to know that drugs which were contraindicated through picc line. Apart from blood product.

Thanks

Hmmm, I am not sure I know of any specific drugs where PICC line delivery is contraindicated- however, there are sometimes concerns with certain drugs mixing/being incompatible with other drugs going down the same PICC line..... is that what you mean?

There is anectodal evidence that phenytoin should not be given via PICCs as it may enhance the risk for catheter occlusion and the same may be true for etoposide (not the typical NICU drug, I know...). Additionally very high concentrations of IV dextrose (40%) should be avoided for the ssame reason.
