Posted October 23, 20195 yr A male baby normal vaginal Delivery cried spontaneously with satisfactory Apgar, 1,5 and 10 minutes. Mother didn't receive any narcotics at delivery.history of rupture membrane 24 hours before delivery. Amniotic fluid is clear. Baby has good color but no cry. what you think?
October 27, 20195 yr This would be my take - if the infant seems perfectly well, I would not worry too much. On the other hand, if there are some minor clinical signs/symtom (like some reduction in muscle tone, not perfectly normal feeding behaviour etc-etc), I'd be suspicious and probably do some basic lab workup and then refer for clinical followup with the community pediatrician (and then he/she refers back in case of increased suspicion of congenital disease)
November 17, 20195 yr For me, definitely this baby must be closely observed and basic lab tests are essentials;
December 11, 20195 yr I have observed this repeatedly in babies whose mothers were taking SSRI antidepressants, specifically Zoloft. Happy baby who does not cry. Cheers, MK
