  1. Do you know that you can start your own neonatal blog here at 99nicu? We introduced the blog feature one year ago (here's the announcement). In contrast to the discussion forums (that mainly deals with questions and comments on specific clinical problems), a blog can be used to express experiences and thoughts in a free and open format. (As you know, there are no evidence-based ways to write a blog!) It is easy to start a blog, just click on "Blogs" in the navigation bar above and learn by trial-and-error, or click here to read our short manual. PS. With the next version of the software platform (scheduled early 2009), the blog feature get a major update t…

  2. We have changed the registration process due to several attempts to distribute spam and other inappropriate contents in the 99nicu forums. We are sorry if you have been affected. To reduce those problems we have decided to change the membership registration process. From now on, all new registrations will be manually validated before a new member can log in add post in the forums.

FYI... the NeoWiki project group has officially started to discuss the various aspects of a NeoWiki. If you are interested to work for a NeoWiki, please join the project group and particiapte in the discussions. Click here to download further instructions.

  4. We have changed the location of adverts from the Google Adsense program. Previously, there were Google adverts at the bottom of all web pages, and sometimes also at the top beside our logo. Adverts (link-type dito) are now only displayed after the first post in every discussion. Adverts are not displayed for Supporting Members and Premium Members. If may wonder why Google adverts are displayed at all... In 2007, we earned about 300 USD for those adverts, money that helps to pay bills for web hosting, domains etc-etc.

  5. We have opened a new starting page for the 99nicu community! The discussion forums at 99nicu are listed in a systematic order, but the interface is not great when it comes to navigation among community-related news, discussions, blog entries etc. Valuable feedback from members without previous experience from other discussion forums underscored that we needed to do something. This portal page will serve a double purpose. It will be easier for you to see the most recent activity in the forums, and it will be easier for us to provide you with community-related news. Click on PORTAL in the navigation bar (top left) and take a look! As always, we apprecia…

Welcome to the virtual NICU! Do you want advice from other members on a specific and complicated clinical case? Now, you can "admit" patients to our virtual NICU when you, for example, need input on diagnosis or treatment. Besides the clinical history, you can upload pictures, videos and PDFs. Whenever possible, please anonymize the material. We can assist you to attach documents to your case report, just email info@99nicu.org We will alert all members by email when there's a new patient admitted to the virtual NICU. To keep updated about the discussion on a particular case, we recommend you to Subscribe to updates by email. When you read a case discussi…

  8. the NICU accessoir of the year! We figured that some marketing would be timely and decided to spend some more... on lanyards! The lanyards are woven and really nice! Besides the snapping hook (or what-ever English word for such a thing...) for keys and cards, there's also a mobile string attached, perfect for a USB memory (or a mobile phone of course). Do you want a couple of lanyards? Click here to visit the Members Area... BTW, if you organize a congress, please email info@99nicu.org if you would be interested to use our lanyard for congress id cards etc! <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"> </form> …

  9. Take the chance to get a valuable Christmas Gift for your unit - recruit your colleagues and win a bundle of books to the library on your NICU. To promote activity at 99nicu we launch a competition with a quite valuable prize - the books shown below. The rules are quite simple: The NICU with most 99nicu members will get the books as a gift. It is not the actual number, but the proportion of staff that counts. For example, Unit A with 50 employees and 25 registered members, will win over Unit B with 100 employees and 40 members. If two NICU's have the same proportion of staff registrered, the activity counted as number of 'posts per capita' will decide which NICU …
