In USA, it is common practice to see babies daily, since birth. If delivered Vaginally , these babies get discharged along with mother in 2 days and if c-section delivery then 3 days.
Brachial plexus injury during difficult delivery usually resolves on it's own. We observe it clinically and if no improvement seen in first week, then we consider physiotherapy and Neurology consult. I didn't had any baby not improving spontaneously for last so many years... all of those babies improved rapidly in their own.
I use IV low dose Midazolam and low dose IV Fentanyl ....or Low dose Lorazepam IV and low dose IV Vecuronium. Either of combination works well. I do not use any of these medications if baby is already depressed and not active for age because those babies do not resist much if at all since their muscles are already not having little to no tone.
I am a Neonatologist in USA.... I wish I could help taking preemies into our NICU but USA is far away and is impossible to do so.
But, I am willing to come to EU to help as a Neonatologist if possible.
