Hi all, I'm very interested in the role rectal manipulations like rectal thermometry and the use of rectal tubes play in the development of constipation and NEC in the preterm infant. Would you like to share your protocols/guidelines/experiences with me? Do you use rectal thermometers in daily care? Do you use rectal tubes in daily care for air/stool relieve in (extreme) preterm infants? Do you experience constipation in the preterms? Thank you for sharing!

Hi All, I am working as part of a student-team at the University of Cambridge on the idea of developing wireless sensor technology for neonates in the NICU. The overarching goal of this is to progress the technology to a point where it serves to reduce the barrier to kangaroo care. In addition it is hoped the lack of attached wires will have a positive impact on the delivery of care from NICU nurses and doctors in emergency situations. There is also potential to develop the technology to be useful to low and medium income country NICUs. As part of the development we are trying to get opinions from a broad range of healthcare professionals working in NICUs all ov…

Guys I need your expertise and knowledge about use of CVP monitoring in a sick neonate... The normal values range in between 4-6 in children (as per the literature...) How much do we rely on this measurement? Are there any normal values in preterm infants or non-immune hydrop babies?

Good morning 99ers, I am in discussion with my nursing colleagues over the seemingly ad hoc approach to getting our extreme premmies out for S2S (particularly early on when ventilated/lines/temp instability etc), and whether a more formalised guideline may help (worked for feeding, hasn’t it?). Grateful for thoughts/opinions. Regards Al

Looking for better materials to fixate our endotracheal (nasal) tubes, I came upon Hy-tape; not available in Europ but never the less. What are your experiences with the pink tape? Stays in place even when on HFO or with a lot of moist?

I would like to share this video about a "23 week miracle", cared for by @AllThingsNeonatal and his team in Canada. It is a short film about the journey of a 23 week daughter born in a smaller unit. It is really a beautiful story about a preterm baby, and power of parenthood. The film includes a product placement (you won't miss it ) but that does not take away the main message in this video - that parents are essential and should be involved to the greatest extent possible.
