I just found this article an "editor's choice" in ADC, a randomized trial on parental presence on neonatal intensive care unit clinical bedside rounds. http://fn.bmj.com/content/100/3/F203.full 95% of parents and 90% of staff supported that parents attending ward rounds and the researchers concluded that: We have been aiming at rounding with parents "as team members" since several years and I have very good experience myself. Parents who often see their babies more hours than any staff can contribute with valuable observations, they become better informed, we can make plans together with parents (feeding strategies etc) and they also become more engaged with…

I would be grateful to any of my nursing/medical colleagues as to whether you have a protocol or set of parameters that you observe when getting a ventilated infant out for kangaroo/skin to skin? Many Thanks Alistair

A film producer contacted us on the 99nicu Twitter account - sharing a documentary film which is not only about difficulties families sometimes go through, but also a tribute to NICU nurses. As there are so many NICU nurses being members here: this is something I want to forward to you!

We are updating our policies for Term SGA in our unit. I wonder if you routinely perform head and/or renal US scan in such babies and if you investigate for CMV. With best regards Marcello De Filippo II level Neonatology Unit Grosseto, Italy

What charts for term infant are you using? Is it the most updated? Thanks

  9. The latest Leading article is about the importance about communication with parents and we figured this was a good moment to launch a 99nicu Poll about feedback from parents. We have heard from colleagues around the world that some collect parental feedback regularly, for example from a questionnaire, while others don't ask parents for feedback at all. Please respond whether you collect feedback in your NICU, and if yes, explain how you do it in a comment below!

Dear all.. Involvements of parents in the care of their baby is of utmost importance for both parents and babies... In our NICU , Gaza, Palestine. We are startimg to recognize that issue and thinking of the most feasible ways of doing this, because in our country wer have some barriers: social, cultural, religious ...so we are thinking of best and possible solutions to implement concept of parenting locally where we are..and i'll be very thankfull if any one can provide me with literature of parenting.. Thanks for all
