Do you use any method ,traditional or otherwise , which will not allow the head shape of preterm to become plagiocephalic? Does keeping the baby on floor mate help in getting good shape ? do you use appliances to get back a normal shape ?

Every NICU faces challenges. It just comes with the territory. After doing some research I feel like the following three challenges are pretty universal. Can anyone tell me how important these three issues are in your NICU? What solutions has your unit found to address them? Medication Errors Infection Control Tubing Misconnections Thanks!

Does anyone have any evidence-based information on when IV lines should be changed such as the primary line, the line with lipids, and the piggyback line for infusing medications?

We use various neonatal abstinence scoring tools to assess the withdrawl symptoms of infants exposed to illicit drugs via mother's drug use. I have not found a scoring tool specific to preterm infants. This is important because the signs and symptoms exhibited by preemies would be significantly different from those of term infants. We are in the process of reviewing our policy for "Morning Care" for neonates in NICU. We have noticed that "Morning Care" is a period of great stress for sick neonates and may be associated with deterioration if not done properly. I wanted to know from our colleagues in 99nicu regarding their protocols for "Morning Care". Do you stagger the "Morning Care" for Intensive Care and intermediate care over different time periods in the night so as not to overload the staff? Do you have a senior nurse to help the the nurses doing "Morning Care"? Which babies do you weigh and which ones do you skip? What is the frequency of weight taking? We are searching for a better way to put the CPAP head on, by a fresh premuture. This is always a struggle. Can you help me with our questions? 1. Wich brand do you use for your CPAP items (tubes, head, etc.) 2. Do you use any helping gear to put the CPAP head on, so it gets easier. 3. Dear Colleagues, We do not have such suction devices like the "neosucker" for nasal suctioning. We use atraumatic catheters. And here comes my question. Years ago i learned that one can insert a "atraumatic" catheter with applied suction. When i searched the internet and my literature i found no evidence to support that practice. They all seem to insert the catheter and apply suction when pulling back the catheter. Is there a bigger possibility to damage the nasal tissue by applying suction while inserting the catheter? Dont one "pushes" the mucus further down the nose when insertin a catheter without suction? Is there any Literature available which shows a benefit …

One of the elements of transitioning the baby in preparation for discharge is going "back to sleep" I would like to hear from members who were successful in the process.
