Hello, I would like to ask if health professionals from Africa, Asia and other regions are permitted to join NICU99. I am responsible for a non-clinical global health forum called CHILD2015 (hifa2015.org/child2015-forum) and our members are looking for ways in which they can get clinical advice on newborn care. Best wishes, Neil Dr Neil Pakenham-Walsh MB,BS, DCH, DRCOG Coordinator, HIFA2015 and CHILD2015 Co-director, Global Healthcare Information Network Chair, Dgroups Foundation Corner House, Market St Charlbury, Oxfordshire OX7 3PN, UK Tel: +44 (0)1608 811899 Email: neil.pakenham-walsh@ghi-net.org HIFA2015:www.hifa2015.org Dgroups Foundation: www.d…

Dear all, I would like to contribute more to 99nicu and often come across very interesting cases that could generate good discussion in the virtual NICU. However I find it difficult to post. Everyone can see where I work, and if the case is a bit unusual, in theory the patient can be identified. Is it possible to post cases anonymously via the administrator, in that case I would post many more. Also when people post cases I think it is important with few words to describe the facility the patient is admitted to, what level NICU is it and importantly is it a resource rich or limited setting. Advices regarding lost of surfactant, iNO, bosantan, ECMO etc does not make…

We need your feedback on 99nicu News, the newsletter that we used to send out on an almost monthly basis. The latest issue can be downloaded here: http://99nicu.org/newsletters/latest.pdf In the 99nicu News issues we list new topics, pass on other site updates and promote the various features of the 99nicu community. My questions to all members are: do you find the newsletter useful? should we send out regular emails instead, more frequently or less often? do you keep updated through the other channels (RSS, Facebook, Twitter)?

I don't know how to navigate to the photo of the premie showing the color change (in which direction? pale? blue? bright red?) in right arm and right upper anterior chest, but I'm certainly interested in taking a look at it. Thanks in advance for any "how to" instructions! :-)

You all know about Facebook and most of you reading this is probably members too. Do we need our own Fan Club on Facebook? We would be able to meet many more people. But, we have our own community here. What do you think about pros/cons? I am not so good at Facebooking ,(inactive member...), but would you be in interested to administer a 99nicu FB Page? BTW, I just found the fan page of Neonatology Reviews http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21102202700

Hi! From the visitor statistics we see surprisingly good figures. In January 09 we had more than 4000 unique visitors and with the current trend we might have hit 5000 unique visitors during February. Still, most visitors stop by and read, but do not post so much in the forums. And, we want more action! We want to hear from you: please post your honest feedback, positive and negative, yet constructive criticism. Do you want more frequent emails with reminders? Do you want to read tutorials how the 99nicu community works? Do you want more competitions and give-aways? Should 99nicu be stripped from some features? ´ Should 99nicu organise a congress on evidence-b…

Dear all, we are planning to open an Image Library, for illustrations that could be used when explaining common neonatal problems for parents, for lectures etc. This idea originally came from an email sent through NICU-NET, another great internet resource. As the forums, this Image Library would be member-driven, i.e. any member can upload pictures to the Library, into categories divided into organ systems. Questions: 1) Would you like to beta-test this new function?! 2) Any input on the systematics of the Library? Our suggestion is to arrange pictures by organ system. Any feedback is appreciated!

I guess you all know about the success of Wikipedia, the world-wide, free and open dictionary, where anyone can contribute with expertise and knowledge (and des-information too...). Anyway, the 99nicu Team has discussed whether to open a Neonatal Wiki. In contrast to the discussion forums that deals mainly with clinical questions and advice, a neonatal Wiki would focus on guidelines, protocols etc. I personally think the idea is good. Software is available. Many people would probably be interested to contribute with their knowledge, skills and experience. As the database grows, I am sure a lot of people would be find a neonatal Wiki increasingly useful. What do y…

99nicu has recently celebrated its second anniversary (...the lounge for further details...) and we are now entering the third year of our community. I would like to start a discussion for feedback and comments from you. What can we change to make things better? Personally I think there are several important tasks to accomplish: * continue to encourage discussions in the forums (that's what we are here for) * make people post job offers on our Message Board (it's easy and free) * offer really good member benefits, such as full-text access to journals * improve ways for members to interact with each other One issue to tackle is also our financial situation, to pr…
