  7. Dear Colleagues We are running an online neonatal Lung US course from January 2024 for three months. The beauty of the course is that you can do it at your own pace and in your own time as you please. Course details are as follows. Course Duration The course will be run over three months, starting on January 15th and rounding off at the end of March. We will mentor a small group of candidates through the course, combining online teaching, workshops, and interactive discussions. The course covers LUS in 3 modules over three months 1. The Normal Lung 2. Lung Pathology 3. Clinical Correlation, Diagnosis and Clinical Approach You have access to your own online portal explained in this video https://youtu.be/E2gNYHUIB4c Structure Sessions will be organised weekly to cover a fixed curriculum shared below. Our faculty is quite diverse, including colleagues from the UK, France, Spain, Canada and India. The material can be accessed online on the site, watched by video live, or in your own time. An overview of the course is attached in the image below Commitment The commitment is 60-90 minutes a week for the course period, which will be on a scheduled day of the week that will be sent by December. If you cannot attend the live sessions, then the topic will be shared with you online for your review. Each session will include time for you to share your cases for online critique, and this is held after the teaching is complete. We will supply you with a logbook to keep your images. MCQ and Accreditation For those of you who would like accreditation via the course, it is mandatory that you have access to a US machine and can share cases and images in an anonymised way. We will teach you how to do that. At the end of the course, you must give an online exam that has a passing mark which will be a review of the three core parts of the curriculum as outlined above. The testing can be done anytime within the first six months after the module starts. We would be keen for our colleagues who learn and pick these skills to join us in the future as faculty. Please let me know if you are interested, and I can send you details of how to pay.

Background The MPROvE neonatal simulation instructor course was established in 2012. The concept MPROvE relates to multidisciplinary education of any kind (i.e. multidisciplinary neonatal simulation, or TEL) being used to improve the quality of care and or neonatal outcomes. The MPROvE team delivers the neonatal simulation instructor course in 2 modules. The intention is to help institutions, hospitals, teams and specialties develop faculty skilled in using simulation and technology enhanced learning as an educational tool for quality improvement, delivery of high quality neonatal care and to improve neonatal outcomes. The course is run in Southampton annually but can be delivered anywhere in the world over 2 days. The team brings the manikins and the trainers can come down to your institute to train your faculty. Course Overview The MPROvE neonatal instructor training course was established by Neonatologists, and experts in simulation education. The course helps to train individuals in becoming simulation instructors, but the aim is the faculty development of multidisciplinary teams. Training provided includes learning how to develop faculty, run and administer programmes cost-effectively and use simulation and TEL as a tool in their set-up. The course addresses the following over 2 days- • Educational principles in simulation, Adult learning theory, • Modelling delivery of your simulation programme • Scenario design, Packaging of Scenarios, Manikin Modification and Moulage • Debriefing principles, Debriefing styles, Difficult Debriefing • Running high-fidelity simulation and equipment training • Issues of confidentiality and ethics • Simulating death • An optional 3rd day can cover Advanced equipment training, Faculty development, Running and Administering Programmes, Task training methodology or Video debriefing and Accreditation. Participants & Preparation For courses held in the UK, participants are limited to 15. The number of participants for courses abroad and days over which the course is held need to be discussed with the organisers. All participants must fill in a pre-course questionnaire for a needs assessment https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Mproveinstructor. They also must complete 4 assignments for the course which can be accessed here. Wider reading around the assignments is encouraged and literature is available on request. Mentorship All the course participants are provided mentorship post-completion through the community forum of the website for a year after the course. This is also available via email contact to draloksharma74@gmail.com or drgunda@gmail.com. Please note as additional material is added to the website, participants have access to this as well and can contribute material which they would like to, under their own authorship, without MPROvE branding. Accreditation All course participants are provided with a simulation provider certificate after completion of the course feedback form. Course participants are mentored and those aspiring to can choose to complete the processes for accreditation to become a simulation instructor course provider as described in the section on accreditation. Resources After course completion course participants can access the following- A library of scenarios covering the neonatal airway, difficult neonatal airway, preterm birth, cardiology, respiratory, neurology, neonatal surgical, neonatal transport, and ethics for implementation in their programmes. A library of images explaining manikin modification and moulage in neonatal simulation. A repository of videos which cover task training covering, neonatal intubation, difficult neonatal airway management, use of airway adjuncts, central access, lumbar puncture, needle thoracentesis, chest drain insertion and arterial line insertion.
