  1. What is the dose of hepatitis b immunoglobulin you use for preventing mother to child transmission in a mother with Hbsag positive status? We used 100iu, but some manufacturers recommendation gives per kg dose, above 3kg dose exceeds 100 and we give 200iu. What's your guideline, practice and any articles comparing 100iu versus 200iu.

I am interested in management of well term infants who fall into the algorithm for Chorio treatment with 48 hours of abx pending negative cultures. I work in a Level I nursery and we have been contemplating 24 hours in the nursery on the monitor then out to the Mom's room saline locked getting their last day of meds in the Mom's room. does anyone have a protocol.

Hi. Somebody use PCT before PCR in neonatal screening of infection in neonates with prenatal risk factors? Actually we use first PCR, and I think it is OK. Some young collegues are very entusiastic with PCT, but I¨m not so sure. Thank you

please share your antibiotic preparation and administration practices in your hospitals and if you have evidence based ones. I have heard talk all IV antibiotics prepared in the pharmacy clean room, including spiking and priming the IV tubing to help decrease contamination and infection rates. Do your nurses connect IV tubing bedside or does pharmacy connect in hood? Thanks!

Hi .. we i work , we dont see cases of neonatal tetanus , possibly because of effevctive immunization programme and hyigenic precaustion taken during delivery . but not uncommonly we see cases of normal babies delivered at home and their umbilical cord cut by non sterile knife ( often scissor) . so in such cases >> what should we do ??

Dear fellow 99nicu-ites ! A Warm Hello !! I wanted to know how many of you are using chlorhexidine in your NICUs? In what form? What packaging? At which steps in the newborn care? Any contra-indications for use? Do you use chlorhexidine alone or with isopropyl alcohol ? We are using chlorhexidine swab sticks while inserting central lines. We recently came across chlohexidine wipes but do not know if they have a role in NICU. I was alarmed when I read this :Doctors-warned-using-antiseptic-wipes-premature-babies-infants-suffer-burns-effects Have you come across such burns in your unit? What precautions do you take?
