We are getting SLE 5000 ventilators to our unit. We were thinking of introducing Targetted Tidal Volume. Has any one got experience of using Targetted Tidal Volume. Are there any guidelines on the use of Targetted Tidal Volume. regards Dr. Shiva Shankar

Dear All! I would like to know your opinion about choice of HF ventilator for NICU. I interesting what is difference between Inspiratory time in SLE and SM 3100. Do the long Inspiratory time (SLE 5000 - I:T=1:1) influence to risk of airleek syndrome in neonates or not? Have you some comparision SLE 5000 vs. SensorMedics 3100A? Papers? Links?

Hello, We have recently started using Centricity Perinatal, an electronic form of documentation in our NICU. Have any of you had any experience with this type of charting? Are there issues that we need to be auditing. Some of our staff have had a difficult time moving from paper charting to this. We offered very intensive training before begining the system, but I feel that time actually charting in the system is the only way to really become comfortable. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or words of wisdom.

We in the States have read that CROCS (those wonderful, so popular, colorful shoes) are now banned in NICUs in Sweden because of the static electricity they generate. Can anyone elaborate on this decision and give specific examples of equipment malfunction? I wonder if they could in any way be related to the fire in the NICU in Minnesota where a baby in oxyhood was severely burned? This webiste is related to Crocs. www.j-walkblog.com/index.php?/weblog/post/crocs_banned/ Joanne Ridky, R.N., M.A.

We are in the process of buying new ventilators which can provide both conventional and High Frequency. We have used the Babylog so far which is an excellent ventilator but unfortunately does not oscillate the term babies effectively. We would like to choose between SLE 5000 and the Stephanie ventilators. With the SLE we have tried we had problems re condensation in the circuits causing auto peep and descripencies between set and measured parameters. Others seem to have similar difficulties. Has anyone had experience with the Stephanie ventilators? Also any idea of the annual maintainence costs for the two? regards Jaideep Singh

I am interested to know what disinfectants you use to clean your incubators. Do you have a common disinfectant for all brands of incubators or some brands are not compatible with some chemicals?

Hello all, We are a level three unit looking to reconfigure our neonatal transport trolley for road transfers. I am intrigued as to the various configurations that you must be using and anecdotally what you have found works with regard positioning of equipment on the trolley itself, if you are able to attach a picture of your kit even better. My email is alih.1@btinternet.com With thanks Ali
