  3. Internet has become an everyday tool in health care. To communicate. To search of information. To do research. Thanks to the development of smartphones and tablets, we can access Internet from anywhere. Almost... There are many policies regarding the use of mobile phones and tablets in hospital environments, due to a risk of interference with technical devices. Are you allowed to use your smartphone in your NICU? Please post comments below. And... there are several ways to access 99nicu.org on your smartphone. Click here for more information!

  4. We all are aware of the fact that infants on mechanical ventilation need good nursing care, and we would like to promote this topics during July. The 99nicu Poll in July is about nursing guidelines and whether you have a written protocol for such care. If you want to upload your own protocol, please do. You can add attachments to your post. If you need help to add a protocol to your post, please email me on info@99nicu.org and I will assist you.

Just as drugs can get recalled when a problem is discovered, the same can happen with any medical equipment. Your hospital Bio-med division/department should be the one to alert you in case of any equipment recall. They should be immediately informed of any such recall either by the supplier/manufacturer/authorized agent/distributor or by the local governmental authorities. However it is always better to be extra sure to keep an eye on the following websites: Archived FDA Recall notices: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ArchiveRecalls/default.htm Current Recalls http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/Safety/RecallsCorrectionsRemovals/ListofRecalls/default.htm …

How many caps and mask are daily used in your NICU on an average per staff? Do you use disposable ones or one made of clothes? A lot of masks and caps are daily used in our small unit. Can't understand how to monitor? Please give your advice as per your NICU policy.

  9. I just came across a very interesting initiative, taken by Ian Callander,an Australian neonatologist; the development of an open-source software platform for collection of clinical data during neonatal care. As I understand it, the data can be used for quality control, follow-up statistics, and clinical audit. More info is posted here: http://home.iprimus.com.au/Callanders/

  10. Started by tangyrn,

I am looking for something more comfortable for the nurses to use in the NICU. We currently allow parents to wear hospital patient gowns but the staff must wear yellow gowns when holding the infants. The yellow gowns we use are stiff, hot, just plain uncomfortable. What do other hospitals do, any suggestions. Thanks
