hi have any of you noted another interesting finding with regards to UVC insertions in preterm. we have noticed that our radiologists (we have noted as well) often report about a lucency around UVC tips on X-rays. there is a high incidence of UVC related complications when we see such things on X-rays. Not exactly sure what these lucencies may indicate? - surrounding hepatoma or air around the catheter? any similar experience or any other thoughts? Shri

hi what are your views about a 3 month old baby with closed anterior fontanelle? no sutural over-riding. OFC at 50th centile.

The most interesting case scenario in my experience is this: term baby born in a background of perinatal compromise, with poor response to resuscitation and then gets a heart rate at about 30 minutes or so and the baby getting transferred to a level-3 neonatal unit for active cooling. Invariably, the short-term prognosis in these babies is very poor and difficult decisions are taken in the level-3 unit, including withdrawal of care. the question shouldn't just be babies who "cannot" be transported, but also babies who "should" not be transported.
