Hello, I a UK neonatal trainee about to finish my neonatal training in next few months (Certificat of Specialist Training in Neonatology) and will be qualified to work as a consultant neonatologist here. For professional and personal reasons, I have decided to move to North America. For this I have done the USMLE exams with good scores (Step 1 229 Step 2 241 and CS pass) and gained ECFMG certifications. I am a biritish citizen, born in and graduated from India. I have 2 questions: Is this true that USA fellowship programs are no longer accepting International Medical Graduates for direct entry to fellowships? If I did a neonatal fellowship in Canada, and pass…

Hello everyone, I am a neonatologist in San Antonio, Tx. Just curious if anyone has experience in the area of resource utilization in their quality improvement initiatives. If so, I would appreciate any guidance. Our practice is wanting to start monitoring and cutting back on overuse of resources. Also, does anyone have any experience with the move to pay-for-performance especially how it relates to medicaid and insurance companies. Hope everyone is well, thanks, Sam Burns

The first 99nicu Poll in 2013 is about your use of social media, and which web platforms you use for professional communication with other neonatal staff. When we started 99nicu in 2006, I did not sense the dramatic development of interactive web sites during the years to come. In a way, we were pioneers without knowing about it. But the basic idea behind 99nicu contained everything in the definition of "Social media", according to Wikipedia. We aimed to create a platform for professional communication between neonatal staff, with the aim to promote health among the thousands and thousands of term and preterm infants populating NICUs around the world. I'd w…

Being prepared for disasters is of paramount importance. I am sure all NICUs have some sort of drills / evacuation (horizontal and vertical), etc on a regular basis. I want to know how you are preparing your units/staff for an emergency. What equipments do have for evacuation? What plans have you made? What contingency plans have you made? Have you done a full evacuation drill? In case of a real emergency will you be able to evacuate all your patients in a timely manner? Do you use evacuation vests( Vests with pockets for keeping babies !) ? Have you faced a real emergency in your NICU? How was your experience?

I seek advice about how to work as a neonatologist in Canada. Does anyone, trained outside US/Canada, have experience from working there? Or, can anyone from Canada give advice? What formalities need to be met? I and my family have some very vague plans about staying for a year in Vancouver in the future (2013?). If dreams come true, I am sure it would be great
