I seek advice about how to work as a neonatologist in Canada. Does anyone, trained outside US/Canada, have experience from working there? Or, can anyone from Canada give advice? What formalities need to be met? I and my family have some very vague plans about staying for a year in Vancouver in the future (2013?). If dreams come true, I am sure it would be great

We are calculating what is the NICU bed requirement for a region. Instead of an arbitrary number, we decided to actually derive this number through scientific calculations. So given a region with a population Y (Eg. Y= 1 million people) with a fertility rate of X live births per 1000, what would be the NICU bed requirement for that region? Of that how many would be NICU-Intensive care beds and how many NICU-Intermediate care beds? I know it seems very hypothetical, but this is an actual problem we are facing and we will submit this to the appropriate authorities to justify our needs. It sounds simple, but actually it turns out to be very complicated and controversial. The question is are we improving our NICU ? Has our NICU performance remained the same for the past few years? What about the performance of our NICU staff members (Medical and Nursing ) ? Are they improving themselves? That was the easy part. Now the difficult part. We can only improve a thing which can be measured. Dear Colleagues, I want to know what type of system do you have in place to report errors, adverse events, near misses in the NICU. How do you ensure confidentiality of these reports so that more people come forward with reports? I am not referring to parents' complaints but to self-reporting by health care givers.
