Dear members I wanted to let you know about an iPhone/iPad app that we released yesterday. The project was spearheaded by myself and Associate Professor Patrick McNamara in collaboration with Ikaria who generously funded this initiative and our partners in corporate ventures and IT at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. It was released in the iTunes store on May 3rd and it is free to download. We hope that this app will be a great supplement to train neonatologists in echocardiography. Please have a look and feel free to distribute to staff and trainees in your division. Here is the link http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/tnecho/id522700359?mt=8

Regionalization of level-3 neonatal care is advocated by many, as several studies have showed that outcome is better in large/regional NICUs. However, the question of regionalization might be more complicated when it comes to implementation. The 99nicu Poll in april is about policies of regionalization, and how they seem to work in practise. Take the opportunity to post your comments too!

We have had a lot of discussion lately in our unit regarding patient assignments for pregnant nurses. Do your units have policies with regard to assigning or not assigning Isolation patients or ventilated patients receiving NO to your pregnant nurses. Thank you in advance for your input. We all know that NICU care does not come cheap. So I want to know how your patients tend to pay the bills. Are you faced with ethical dilemmas when financial limitations limit care ? As for my NICU, the government pays for the NICU care of all its citizens. The non-citizens are of two types. The insured and the non-insured. The insured have no problem. The non-insured have lot of problem paying the bills...but the hospitals here work with many charitable institutions to foot the bill.

This can be regarding procedures, treatments, guidelines, supporting parents, descritpion of a condition, etc. All the answers will be very much apreciated! Best regards, NeonatalMe
