Dear colleagues, I wanted to know what your local practices are in cleaning the cranial sonogram probe(transducer) between patients? Cranial sonograms are a routine procedure in all NICUs and I was wondering if there is an infection transmission risk while using the probe on multiple patients without cleaning the probe between procedures.

We have Drager Babylog 8000plus in our unit for Mechanical Ventilation. Now we intend to acquire CPAP unit. My concerns 1. Bubble CPAP or Nasal CPAP? Is there any convincing evidence that the former superior to the latter? The former is more expensive though. 2.Can you recommend any particular unit? I have seen demonstrations from F & P ( Bubble) and Phoenix ( Nasal).

Hi, In the coming months we are looking to replace the pneupac ventilators on our transport kits. I would welcome any opinions and thoughts on a replacement. Do any of you use the Fabian, and if so what are your experiences (we did have it on trial last year but not out on the road) Thanks everyone. Alistair

1- Are anybody out there using neobars to secure the ETT? 2- If you use neobars, explain why you prefer them over the adhesive tapes attached to the lip to secure the ETT 3- If you do not use the neobars explain why not. 4. Do you use any other method to secure your ETT? I do not want to skew your answers, so I will give my personal opinion later. Thanks so much for your participation in this short survey, any response will be greatly appreciated.

We have recently had an increase in the number of unintentional extubations. We have looked into several different causes and can not pin point one particular cause. They have recently implimented a change in the way we position the babies in the bed and ventilators in the room. We use giraffe isolettes and have always placed the head towards the outside of the bed and feet towards inside where switches are, with the vents begin at the end of bed near head. Now we have turned the babies with heads at other end and vents to side of isolettes. It doesnt seem to be working well and gives less working space. What are something things that you do positioning infant/equipment t…

Hello all, We are having a discussion about the benefits and deficits of using non-invasive CO2 monitoring in our NICU population. We have rented a transcutaneous CO2 monitor, but have not had great luck getting readings the clinicians can trust. We are preparing to get the end tidal software for our Servo i vents. I feel that both monitoring modalities have their good and bad points, such as the end tidal not being useful when an infant is receiving HFOV, and the transcutaneous not working well for an infant with gneralized edema. Does anyone care to comment on their unit's use of either one of these noninvasive methods of monitoring CO2? We have the Sentec CO2 monitor …
